Tom Farmer's Almanac

Let me introduce myself...

My name is Tom Farmer and I am the proud owner of Upstate CNC Service, Inc. www.upstatecnc.com, located in Hilton, New York. We are a full-time CNC shop that specializes in cutting wood and plastic with precision and speed that would never be obtainable by hand. I will start off by saying that right now I have the best job of my entire lifetime, and I look forward to going to work every day. I cannot imagine ever doing anything else and I owe it all to the purchase of my first Techno CNC Router. I happened upon a video of a Techno Router in action, and realized that I had to have one. It was honestly love at first sight. I could immediately see the possibilities of what I could do if I owned one of these machines.

I have been a cabinet maker, part-time patented inventor, and self-proclaimed artist for most of my life. I can build the finest furniture by hand, and really enjoy the time I spend working wood by hand, but when I finally got my Techno CNC Router it was like a whole new world opened up before my eyes! I have always been somewhat of a closet engineer and get a kick out of making things that actually do something, but was never really able to build things on the complex level that I imagined because I was limited by my hand tools. Don't get me wrong, you can do some amazing work by hand, but a CNC router can do it faster, more accurately, and ultimately better because of the repeatable precision built into them. I can hand cut a very nice gear by hand and with a little clean-up work have something pretty cool after hours of work.
With the Techno CNC Router, I can draw a gear in my cad program, cut it and have a computer PERFECT gear in minutes.

Seriously, minutes! I can add or subtract a tooth and have another new one just as fast. I love this machine!
I looked around at a lot of machines before I settled on the Techno CNC Router system. I called the factory for advice, and they gave me the name of a shop in my area that had a machine and actually went to see it for a demo. I cannot explain how much I wanted that machine after just a few minutes of watching it do its thing, but the need to own one far outweighed the need to have the money in my wallet. I bought one that day! I bought a Techno 4896LC.

When I got the machine in my shop, it reminded me of setting up a new printer for my computer. The machine comes completely assembled, and all I did was hook up the wires and plug it in. I was making parts within a few minutes of turning on the computer. I figured that the more I played, the better I would get. I have never stopped playing from that day on, and I have learned a lot! I built an entire business around playing with my machines (yes, I have several now).
I am also the proud owner of a Techno 59120 LC and just purchased a 2430 LC Table top machine for a specific product that I make full time to pay the bills. What I want do now is spread the word about CNC routers in general, and from time to time I will throw in a couple of comments about why I think Techno makes the best machine for your hard-earned dollars. I hope you join me in the world of CNC Routers and have as much fun every day as I do!

Let's make something fun! Halloween is coming and I came up with something a little bit different to decorate for that big party, or to just show your friends how clever you are. I have included a picture and .DXF file for both sets of these ceiling fan blades. You can have them for yourself, sell them to your friends or build an empire making them as a full time business. It's up to you from here. If you own a machine, great! If not, ask your boss for 10 minutes of machine time, and whip off a set of these blades. I bet you make a set for him before the day is over! I used ¼" Baltic birch and can get two sets from a 5 X 5 sheet. I also cut them using a 1/8"spiral 4-flute cutter with two passes per blade. The speeds and feeds are up to you, but slower is always a better place to start. They are designed to fit almost any 5-blade fan and can be easily adjusted to fit most others if needed.
