How Much Money Do You Need Saved Up to Invest in a CNC Machine?
Many woodworkers and signmakers think there is a certain magic number when trying to invest in their first CNC machine. Everything comes down to what TYPE of CNC machine you are looking to invest in AND if you are looking to keep this machine for years to come.

These days CNC routers can cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a hobby level, light duty machine up to around $100,000 for a high production, heavy duty machine. Choosing the right one from a myriad of CNC machines on the market all depends on your production needs. Paying for an expensive CNC outright can be intimidating. More often than not, a customer will opt for financing their CNC machine.
To put financing into perspective, let’s talk about Techno CNC’s newest 4’x8′ CNC machine that you can finance for under $5 an hour (yes, really).
The CNC router that we are talking about is Techno’s new LC Series (which does stand for low cost) but it comes with all of the bells and whistles. If you are a start up company, a hobbyist, a school, or just a woodworker looking to invest in their first (and last) CNC router, then the LC is the perfect fit for you. The package price starts at $35,000 – which sounds like a lot when you are a smaller budget company. But when you decide to finance, the financing ends up being about $700 a month or $175 a week or $4.38 per hour, depending on how you look at it.
Most payment plans allow for a small down payment and 60 monthly installments. Imagine running a $50,000 CNC machine for about $1000 a month. That’s $250 a week and you can run it all day, every day. It can be viewed as hiring a reliable employee that works for only $6.25 an hour! It is easy to see that, in most cases, it can pay for itself rather quickly and continue to pay off far beyond the break-even point.
So if you’re asking yourself how MUCH money you need saved up before pulling the trigger and buying that CNC, don’t wait. More times than not, you already have all of the funds you need to invest in a GOOD CNC machine.
